Father Victor Olvida

Welcome to the website of St. Josephs Parish, Sequim, Washington. Our aim is to serve parishioners and visitors with information regarding our parish sacramental celebration and services, parish events and pastoral care.

I, Father Victor Olvida, am so grateful to be here at St. Joseph Parish. My appointment from our Archbishop, Most Rev. Alex J. Brunett, D.D., Ph.D. is a great privilege for me to carry on my sacerdotal ministry for parish pastoral care, for spiritual and sacramental celebration, especially in the sacrifice of the Holy Mass.

It is also my joy to be working together and collaboratively with the parish staff and various lay leaderships, including the young and adult parishioners. We promote community relationship of peace and love; to encourage parishioners to share their gifts of time and talent in the service of the Church for the glory of God. Using the Psalmist’s words, we can say to the Lord God, “Let my heart praise the Lord, I will proclaim all your marvelous deeds. I will rejoice and exalt in you. I will sing praise to your name, O Most High” (Ps. 9: 2-3).

My hope and prayer that we, the Catholic Community of St. Joseph, Sequim, in the Archdiocese of Seattle, work and celebrate together our unity in God’s love by living the Gospel of Jesus Christ and sharing our faith through actions that reflect justice, love and peace- both locally and globally. “Blessed be God, the Father of Christ Jesus, our Lord, the all-merciful Father and the God of all comfort!” (2 Cor. 1: 3).

Priest Administrator - Fr. Victor A. Olvida.

Father Vic Olvida was born in March 1949, in Mati, Davao, Philippines, the 3^rd of 6 children born to Paterno and Gregoria Olvida. When his father died in 1957, his mother remarried and had two children. Fr. Olvida, was baptized at. St. Nicholas de Tolentino in Mati, (became a Diocese of Mati itself in 1984), in Eastern Mindanao, Philippines.

He finished his college education at Ateneo de Davao College and completed his Theology formation at St. Francis Xavier, Regional Major Seminary of Mindanao and Sulu, Philippines. Ordained priest in Mati Parish for the Diocese of Tagum, Philippines, and served as priest in three different parishes of Tagum Diocese under the leadership of Maryknoll Bishop, Most Rev. Joseph Regan, D.D. When Mati Diocese was established Bishop Patricio H. Alo, D.D. was his Local Ordinary until 1999 when Fr. Olvida became incardinated in the Archdiocese of Seattle.

Father Olvida arrived in Seattle to visit his family. He applied to serve as priest in the Archdiocese of Seattle. The newly appointed Archbishop, Most Reverend Thomas Murphy, D.D. responded positively. After completing the process of admission, he was sent to St. Anthony Church in Renton, in November 1991. There the journey of Fr. Olvida’s American Church ministry began. In July 1992 to 1995 he served as Parochial Vicar at St. Edward Church, South Seattle. He was appointed Parochial Vicar of Fr. Paul Magnano (who become Vicar for Clergy in the Archdiocese of Seattle), the Pastor of 6 parishes in Skagit Valley; was stationed at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Sedroo-Woolley for 3 years. In July 1995 through June 2005 he ministered both St. Mary’s Church in Seaview and St. Lawrence Church in Raymond. After serving 7 years as Priest Administrator/Pastor of both Churches, Archbishop Alex J. Brunett, D.D. appointed him as Pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Enumclaw, So. King county. In July 2009 Fr. Vic Olvida arrived here in Sequim, appointed to Serve St. Joseph Church as Priest Administrator.
